Sacred to the memory of Richard, son of George and Elizabeth Jordan, who led by spirit of enterprise and a passionate love of knowledge, accompanied by Richard Lander in his 3rd and last attempt to explore the interior of Africa, and there fell a sacrifice to the baneful influence of the climate, dying at Damuggoo on 21 November 1832 in the 20th year of his age, to the inexpressable grief of his afflicted parents.
